At long last, the first photographic history of Bowen Island is here!
Preview (15K)Through wonderfully evocative images, the story of Bowen's early history is retold - the founding of the community by pioneers and the progression of the island as a result of the Terminal Steamships and Union Steamships resorts. Bowen Island - Reflections is the second publishing endeavour of the Bowen Island Historians, following Irene's Howard's textual account, Bowen Island 1872-1972.

Many of the West Coast's most renowned photographers took photos of this "Happy Isle" in the middle of Howe Sound. Frank Gowen, Phillip Timms, Leonard Frank, and the less well-known Henry Freshwater all loved Bowen and captured the picnics, dances, and 'Moonlight' cruises that depict Bowen in the early twentieth century.

Over two-hundred photographs were chosen to grace the pages of Bowen Island - Reflections. You are invited to enjoy this visual journey into a past that, while only a couple of generations back in time, is a world away from today's Bowen.
