Arts & Culture Weekly Update
A publication of the Bowen Island Arts Council (BIAC)              April 23, 2010
Decisions, decisions.

This is going to be tough! There are 18 fantastic projects vying for the big $10,000 gift, generously offered through our local First Credit Union and their 10K Giveaway contest. There's a host of worthy initiatives proposed by our island's dedicated and lively service groups, schools and clubs. All of these proposals bear one thing in common -- they help build this community. That's pretty impressive. Still, the Bowen Island Arts Council is hoping to win your vote as we believe we have come up with an idea and use for the 10K that will benefit each and every Bowen Islander.

We've known it for a long time, and the results of the Arts & Cultural Study reiterated it once again. More than anything, Bowen needs a Community Hall & Arts Centre! And we are going to get one. But in the meantime, BIAC proposes the creation of a Virtual Community Hall.

What is a Virtual Community Hall?
This is conceived as being an online community resource, a visually attractive site one visits via the web. Community members arrive at www.bowencommunityhall.com and view an image of a friendly space that they can navigate by the click of a mouse, or virtual online tour. The virtual facility offers access to different rooms leading to galleries, a theatre, community calendar, resource centre, café, and other exciting rooms to explore.
We are proposing an interactive user-friendly site that reflects the full array of service groups, organizations, and community resources that Bowen has to offer. Best of all, the Virtual Bowen Community Hall offers free access for all.

Think Wikipedia meets Facebook with a Bowen twist!

The site would include a centralized community calendar -- a need that has been identified for a long time, a resource centre for all the various organizations and service groups on Bowen, plus other listings as per the community’s requirements. It will offer links pointing the way to other locally relevant sites, so whatever is being sought will be found via the Virtual Bowen Community Hall.

Vote for BIAC now and help build our community stronger and more connected. Visit the 10K Giveaway website and choose the Virtual Bowen Community Hall.
