 Pottery ClassesAdult classes beginning Saturday, Jan. 16, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 17, 3-5. The fee is $240 for 8 weeks and includes clay, glazes, firing and tool use. Children's classes on Thursdays and Fridays from 3-5 pm. There still is room for a few more in each class.The cost is $200 for 8 weeks. There will be no kids clay camps in March this year as the springbreak is early for the Olympics.(unless requested of course)! (It may be closed,but ...) the Gallery Needs You! The Gallery is happy to announce that they will be raising funds by helping out at BIRD during the months of January and February. We need your help to sort the return-ables. Can you spare one hour for a shift to help out the Gallery? Full training will be available. Opportunities are available for presenters to facilitate a workshop, participate in a panel discussion, or give a reading at the 2010 Write on Bowen Festival, to be held July 2 to 4 at the Bowen Lodge by the Sea. Square.
All workshops and panel presentations in the Festival should relate in some way to the writing process. Priority is given to workshops that are interactive and provide participants with opportunities to write and share. Suitable topics for workshops and panels include, but are not limited to, writing poetry, novels, or short stories, writing genre fiction, writing for children/teens, freelance writing, business writing, making a living from writing, screenwriting, song writing, playwriting, writing for the Net, social media skills and tools, inspirational writing, writing self-help books, how to blast writer's block, self-publishing, traditional publishing, marketing and promoting writing, the role of the writer and reader, and storytelling. The deadline for applications is January 29, 2010. Applicants can download an application form in Word format and then email the completed application to writeonbowen@biac.ca or print a PDF version of the application form and mail or drop it in at The Gallery @ Artisan Square, Box 211, Bowen Island, BC V0N 1G0.
---------------------------------- "Wish You Were Here" Postcard Exhibition SAGA Public Art Gallery invites artists from anywhere in the world to submit postcard art to our "Wish You Were Here" exhibition in January/February 2010. In the spirit of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, we welcome the world to visit in an artistic way. Send us an original work of 4"x6" art (15cmx20cm) and we will display it from January 25 to February 28, 2010. All works will be available for sale. Proceeds go toward a scholarship for a visual arts student in the Shuswap. All media welcome. Original work only. Please do not send pre-printed cards or photocopies of your work, they will not be exhibited. Postcards are single pieces of sturdy paper with an image on one side and a message/postage on the other. We'd love to see postmarks and messages, but if your artwork will suffer in the postal system, please mail it in an envelope.
