New Exhibit: Magi Amma/ Dan Heringa

Magi Amma is a contemporary artist with skills in sculpture, bronze casting, ceremics and computer science. Hery formal education includes a BFA in bronce casting and a MFA in figurative sculpture from the University of Oregon, Under the direction of Paul Buckner. 
 
Dan Heringa has been a professional photographer since 1982, Dan travelled throughout the world on assignment for a variety of clients. In 1995 he was struck by a van and subsequently diagnosed with post - traumatic Parkinson's. He has recently turned his creative energy toward fine art photography and fundraising for Parkinson's research.

Antiques Appraisal and High Tea – July 18, 2009, 10am-4pm
 
What wonderful antiques lurk in your treasure trove of collectibles and objets d’art? Ever wondered if Aunt Bertha’s painting was really as valuable as she made it out to be?
 
Dust off the family heirlooms and join The Bowen Island Historians for their annual fundraiser with local resident and world renowned antique appraiser Uno Langmann and his daughter Jeanette Langmann to discover your untold fortunes.
 
Appraisals are taking place between 10:00-4:00 at Evergreen Hall on Saturday, July 18, 2009. A $30 donation entitles you to bring up to three items for appraisal.
 
High Tea consists of tea, scones and an assortment of sandwiches and pastries for $17.50. Alternatively, a Refresher Tea of tea and scones is available for $7.50. Tea is served from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Reservations recommended.

Dynamite Factory Exhibit at the Museum – You are
invited!

 
Our exhibit on the Tunstall Bay Explosives Factory, 1909-1913 is attracting more guests now that summer is underway. The exhibit features unique artifacts from the Tunstall Bay area, stories of the factory workers, photographs from the era and much more. We have recently installed new artifacts that illustrate how dynamite was used in the mining and logging industries of the Canadian West. We invite you to explore this fascinating piece of Bowen’s history at the Museum.

The Breakmen
 
Ok folks! Tickets to The Breakmen on Thursday, July 23 at Cates Hill Chapel will be at Cates Hill Pharmacy. The cost is $20.00 and the fun you will have at the concert is priceless.
 
The Breakmen formed in 2005 when four of Vancouver BC's best young songwriters and acoustic musicians got together to work on each others songs. They quickly found an enthusiastic audience for what they were doing, performing to sold out houses and playing a leading role in the flourishing West Coast roots music scene.

 Call for Exhibition Proposals
 
The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is currently accepting submissions for our Summer/Fall 2010 exhibition schedule at CityScape Community Art Space.
 
CityScape Community Art Space is a project of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council whose mission it is to celebrate and promote art and artists through quality experiences in a unique and inviting gallery space and to create an inclusive environment, which enriches and encourages interaction in the community.
 
We accept proposals from all members of the community.  Artists are welcome to submit individually or as part of a group.  Non-artists are invited to submit ideas and concepts for exhibitions they would like to see in the gallery. All proposals are evaluated by a professional jury panel.  As a result of our community mandate scheduled exhibitions must have at least three participants.  Artists who submit an idea for an exhibition on their own will be grouped by the North Vancouver Arts Council with additional artists. We are seeking to schedule a total of 5 exhibitions during this timeframe.
 
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Saturday, September 19th, 2009 at 4:30pm.

The arts council is excited to introduce our new summer staff, Mia Watkins.
 
Mia has just graduated from West Vancouver Secondary School. Among her many achievements, she is a talented artist whose work is now on display at Arts Pacific Gallery. Mia was the recipient of the Danielle Dulong Memorial Scholarship. She also was recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Art at WVSS and her work was selected to show in the 2009 Grad Show at the Ferry Building Gallery in West Vancouver.

Mia has taken on the role of assisting the Gallery Coordinator/Curator and Executive Director in a variety of tasks throughout the summer months. She will be attending the University of Victoria’s visual arts department in September. We hope you drop by and give a warm welcome to Mia.
