Wasn't that a party!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Celebrate Arts! last weekend. The party was a lively affair with lots of great games, rousing music, good company and if that's not all, everybody had the opportunity to take home the prize of art. Held in conjunction with BC 2009 Arts & Culture Week, the Bowen Island Arts Council hosted the evening reception as a way of recognizing the vibrant artistic community and its immense contribution to Bowen. Thanks especially to the Communications Committee, including Gayle Ferguson, Chair, Andrea Little and Ross Cone, who let their organizational talents shine. Kudos also go to the folks of the Bowen Island Music Arts (BIMA), who provided some great tunes. Hugs also to our marvelous volunteers who ensured everyone had a good time.

Get ready for a great evening of song. The No Sh*t Shirleys are taking the stage this Saturday night at Cates Hill Chapel, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Shirleys, an all-female a cappella septet, sings music from different cultures, pieces decrying social injustice and songs yearning for a better world. They sing everything from Cuban Carnival music and tragic Russian love songs to sweet Mandarin flirtations and wrenching Appalachian protests. The mission: to promote joy, love and happiness through singing and -- if possible -- to save the world. If you haven't got your tickets yet, act quickly, head to Phoenix and purchase your seat for $15. If available, tickets will also be on sale at the door. Come and
see The Shirls in a wonderful, cozy and acoustic setting. Visit their site on the web.

Museum opens database to public
Want to stroll down memory lane? Want to look for photographs of your family? Want to see what things looked like way back then? Now you can.
The photographic database of the Bowen Island Community Museum and Archives is now available online. The database provides a picture chronicle of Bowen Island history from 1872 to the present. The entire text database and over 3000 of the photographs are accessible at this time for your pleasure and as a resource for learning about the island on which you live.
You can browse or search for specific pictures. Not all of 7000 images are posted as yet, so keep coming back; new ones will be posted at regular
intervals. In the meantime, if there is the description of a picture you are interested in, but whose image is not yet available, contact the Museum.
This is your community photo album and the Museum would be grateful for your help. Many wonderful photographs carry not much information. If you can identify people or places and especially dates, even approximate ones please contact us the Museum. There may be inaccuracies and mistypes; these too we would be grateful to you for pointing out.
Many of the photographs are available for purchase. Contact the Museum.
To view the Photos On Line go to www.bowenhistory.ca and click on “photos Online.” To Contact the Historians, email bihistorians@telus.net or call at 604-947-2655.
If
you are staging an arts and cultural event and wish to be in our
listing, please let us know. We'd be happy to include it in the weekly
update, which is sent out to members of the Bowen Island Arts Council.
Contact Jacqueline at admin@biac.ca with your information.
